THE RESUMPTION OF ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES IN NIGERIA PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SCHOOLS AND THE MEMORIES OF SCHOOL CHILDREN KIDNAPPED BY THE ENEMIES OF THE STATE

The reopening of schools after a long academic break across different states in Nigeria have raised questions about the safety of pupils and other young school goers due to the ugly experiences of past academic sessions.  

While Nigeria armed forces are decimating bandits and other terrorists in their numbers across the 6 geo-political zones, these assailants have resorted to prey on easy targets and towns without enough security presence.  

There is an urgent need for the government across all levels to make enough provisions for the protection of school environments and the staffs to avoid disruption in academic activities and recurrence of insecurity in schools.  

As the Ministry of Education under the leadership of Hon. Tunji Alausa is developing, transforming and expanding the scope of Nigeria academic curriculum and the system of education with emphasis on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics), digital acceleration, unified system for verification of results, introduction of capacity building extracurricular activities and skill developing programmes, with objectives of developing talents that are resourceful and globally competitive.  

The Nigeria Ministry of Education should also liase with relevant security agencies in partnership with state government and traditional rulers to develop a vigilance and monitoring security system for prompt, swift, proactive and reactive measures to protect academic institutions and lives of the leaders of tomorrow.
