In the ancient Yoruba IFA practice, a king is appointed following the guidance of ifa consultation and not based solely on riches and influence of the individual involved. But today, most of the king makers and politicians have made themselves the Oracle pronouncing who is to become king without due process or following the provisions of Ifa Oracle.

Kings are custodians of culture and tradition, and upholder of values, ancestral norms and leader of the people who is appointed divinely to provide guidance, consult with the spiritual realm on behalf of the people and the officer in charge of preserving the people's heritage.

In the Yoruba oral tradition and customs, it is believed that when a king of a town is appointed without divination and due process, such king and town will bear the consequences of subverting the will of the ancestors, and elevating riches above divine direction of Ifa, and also replacing the will of Olodumare for the interest of the politicians and king makers.

The news of a Yoruba king caught and jailed in the USA for fraud is a dent to the sacred stool of Yoruba Kings and this also amplify the level of morale decadence our society is currently dealing with.

The Apetu of Ipetumodu in Osun State, Oba Joseph Oloyede, has been sentenced to more than four years in prison in the United States.

Oloyede, 62, who holds dual U.S. and Nigerian citizenship and resides in Medina, Ohio, was on August 26 handed 56 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Christopher A. Boyko.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio in a statement on Tuesday, the monarch, was also ordered to “serve three years of supervised release after imprisonment and pay $4,408,543.38 in restitution.
