The largest democratic government in Africa is preparing for the much anticipated general election, an electoral exercise scheduled to take place across the 774 LG to produce the President and members of the National Assembly to lead and steer the wheel of the federation of Nigeria.
The Cross and decamping of opposition party members to the ruling party, disagreement among stakeholders in some opposition parties due to their selfish interest and imposition of candidates in others have further divided their unity of purpose. their lack of direction, cohesion, strategic organizing, and purposeful leadership as people oriented alternative, have infuriated loyal members and people who initially belief in such platforms to provide a better manifestoes, achievable vision, workable mission, credible individuals and strategies for the growth and betterment of Nigeria.
With Election in few months, no political parties in Nigeria have mobilized across grassroots or convinced the electorates beyond social media advertisement for individual popularity and recognition. Some parties are enmeshed in leadership tussle that have Balkanize the party into factions, some parties are having funding challenges in mobilizing their members, some are engulfed in legal inferno due to violations of it own internal constitution with some of it members becoming a willing tool working behind the scene to sabotage the party from within, becoming a clog in it wheel of progress.
A coalition that once gave an hope of joint rescue mission have been divided with some pitching their tent with the Obi-Kwankwaso (Ok movement) in the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), others keeping the hope alive within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) backing Alhaji Atiku Abubakar-Rotimi Amaechi ticket to articulate the vision of greater Nigeria. A faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) entered into an alliance with the Allied People's Movement (APM) in Oyo state, with Eng. Seyi Makinde working, planning and deploying resources to have the title of "Presidential Candidate" attached to his name after his duration as the governor of the pacesetter state.
While unemployment, economic hardship and insecurity is still visible across the nation despite the incumbent government efforts in addressing these challenges, most of the governors and assembly members have retired from governance and leadership to full scale politics and embezzlement.
Majority of the opposition parties are still engaging in internal strife instead of capitalizing on the lapses of the incumbent, one of the reasons Daniel bwala (Former spokesperson of Atiku Abubakar currently working for President Bola Tinubu on Policy communication) referred to Opposition parties as been jobless and lacking understanding of governance. Because governance requires preparation, policies, plans, systems, institutions, strong minded people ready to make sacrifices and tough decisions for the betterment of all and the next generation.
Some opposition leaders only want to be referred to as leaders, parading themselves around with titles without project or manifestoes, some want the position of leadership within their parties for them to be able to negotiate with the ruling party when campaign officially begins. While some career politicians are only interested in the funding from candidates across national/state/senatorial district to enter their pulse without promoting the values and manifestoes of such individuals.
