Guerilla warfare tactics is one of the most difficult strategies to defend against but can be defeated through joint cooperation and understanding the pattern of attack.
The Fulani bandits have weaponized this tactics to strike terror into the heart of innocent citizens in Nigeria and attacking military formation unexpectedly.
The strength of guerrilla warfare tactics lies in the surprise attack, fluidity through speed and mobility from one spot to another spreading bloodshed and panic into the heart of the people.
A glance into history and studying of different war generals who weaponized guerrilla warfare tactics to conquer different nations revealed that credible intelligence network and superior strategy can defeat guerrilla warfare tactics.
My study into the General of Carthage known as Hannibal and the Genghis Khan of the Mongols revealed that surprise, mobility and coordinated attack were the elements used in their war campaign against different kingdoms.
These can be traced to the pattern of Fulani bandits attack across different geo-political zones in Nigeria.
Attack them when they least expect it in the night or midnight (surprise), fast movement with the use of motorcycles (mobility) , kidnapping and demanding for ransom which will be later used to procure more firearms, attacking of military formation and King's palace before advancing into town and villages (coordination), killing of farmers and destroying of farm settlements (control of food supply).
The current security architecture of Nigeria with command centre sitting in Abuja cannot defeat Guerilla warfare tactics.
Proactiveness, tactical and swift response are the key ingredients to tackle the widespread insecurity which the current Nigeria security system does not have and the enemies are aware of these loopholes.
Devolution of security power to the community through the proposed community policing and aiding of traditional security organizations like Yan Sakai in the North, Oodua People's Congress in the Southwest, Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Agbekoya, Amotekun, Ebubeagu/ESN in the East e. t. c. by providing them with modern day technological support, sophisticated firearms, reward system for motivation and effective leadership system for sense of direction and purpose.
Terror organizations (Al-Qaeda, ISWAP, Al-Shabaab, Ansaru, Mamudah, Lakurawa) depends on funding like other organizations, as financing is the life-force of every organization.
Unravel the source of their funding, identify supply routes and disrupt the terror network through credible financial intelligence and recruitment of locals into forest guards across 774 Local Government Areas of Nigeria.
