Reports emanating from South East Nigeria is that Enugu Community Protests Government’s Plan To Establish Cattle Ranch For Herders, Nearly 8 Years After Massacre By Militia.
Hundreds of Nimbo community residents in the Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State have staged a peaceful protest against the state government’s plan to establish a cattle ranch for herdsmen in their community.
Among the protesters were people widowed or orphaned by the killing of 40 residents of the community by gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen on April 26, 2016, during the government of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The adverse effects on the youths made group of youths on Friday staged a peaceful protest in Osogbo, Osun State, decrying the rising cost of living, with a call on the government to immediately intervene.
Despite the large presence of police operatives near the scene of the protest, the youth kept singing songs expressing the frustration of many Nigerians occasioned by the harsh economy.
Also, some residents of Minna, Niger state capital, blocked major roads in the city to protest the rising cost of living in the country. There was also a protest in Kano state over the economic hardship being experienced by Nigerians.
One of the primary responsibility of a government is to protect lives and properties of the governed, provide leadership, direction and making good fiscal/monetary decisions that can facilitate national growth and development.
Although, the President Bola Tinubu led government has provided numerous solutions and measures like palliatives, grants, sponsorship, increment in minimum wage, deployment of security personnel e. t. c to these challenges but the full impacts is yet to reflect on average citizens of Nigeria.
