Women globally contribute to sustainable development through involvement in economic activities and counsel in their households, they are teachers of morales and ethics in every society, and emblem of uprightness.
In Africa, women are not just tools of procreation but source of joyfulness and representation of God on earth. They are perceived to possessed supernatural powers, maker of legendary figures and destroyer of arrogant people for the purpose of maintaining universal balance and order.
From historical perspective, women have led wars as commandant and generals, the Amazon warriors of Dahomey (modern day Benin republic) were all female regiment of the kingdom, existed between 17th century until late 19th century. Historians noted that the Amazon warriors defeated the gallant French troops during the invasion of West Africa (Post berlin conference, 1884).
In the pre-colonial Nigeria, Queen Aminatu of Zaria was a ruler and warrior who defended the Hausa city-state of Kaduna from invaders and expanded the kingdom during her reign that lasted for 34 years from 1576 until she died in 1610.
Over the years in West Africa and the global community, women have strived to the apex of greatness defying religious persecution and archaic dogma that they are not morally capable or spiritually competent to lead prayers nor to be given position of authority but only fit for quenching sexual desires in the other room and to chair/preside over the board of kitchen affairs.
In modern day Nigeria, the late madam Funmilayo Ransome Kuti dedicate her life towards changing the narrative and societal bias that women are mere objects and tools to be used and disused. She challenged the status quo through positive advocacy for women to be engaged in policy formulation, decision making and setting the landmark of women involvement in local politics and multinational affairs.
She was the mother of Afro-beat pioneer and legend Fela Kuti, Mrs Funmilayo fearlessness was passed down to her son who re-engineer African music in conjunction with political activism to seek justice for Nigerians in the face of military oppression, political corruption, mismanagement and neocolonialism. The Movement of the People (M.O.P) was the political platform organized by Fela Kuti while using music as the weapon to spread his ideologies of Pan Africanism.
Nigerian women have carved a niche for themselves in the field known to be dominated by men, whether in Nigeria or in diaspora, clearing a pathway and providing opportunities for the next generation of women to believe in themselves without disrespecting cultural values and traditions regardless of their faith and worldview.
The young fighter jet pilot, Tolulope Arotile of the Nigeria Airforce before her demise, surpassed the expectations of many through her creativity, ruggedity and contributions to the counter insurgency mission in Northern Nigeria, before she was silenced by terrorist apologists and sponsors in the Nigeria army, who saw her as a threat to the mission of expanding banditry and terrorism beyond the boundaries of Northeast/Northwest Nigeria.
The enormous impacts and relentless commitment to global commerce, infrastructural development, international business, sports, music, diplomacy, filmmaking and promotion of humanitarian driven activities beyond the continent of Africa has earned numerous women and ladies of Nigerian origin international appointments, ranking among world richest, awards, recognition, ambassadors of international companies and brands, and serving as inspiration to other African women to dream big with the hope of uplifting their immediate community with their background story rather showing off on social media or trading their bodies for immediate gratification of material riches.
